An Introduction to the Discipline of Accounting
The Department of Accounting is one of the departments in the School of Management and Economics, BIT, a pioneer in setting accounting major among domestic engineering branch. The Department has been classified into the primary division of Business Administration, which has been honored as Key Discipline of Beijing Municipality. Since its founding in 1987, the Department has started its enrollment programs in financial field, ranging from Undergraduates (1987), Postgraduates (1992), MPAcc (Master of Professional Accounting, 2010),Doctor(2010) to the Post-Doctoral workstation and Doctoral Program of Business Administration .
Faculty
There are 11 full-time teachers in the Department, including 4 full professors,4 associate professors and 3 doctoral supervisors. Among them, 8 are PHD holders(2 overseas PHD holders), and 7 have studied in USA and UK as visiting scholars. Moreover, honors won by teachers include Academic Talent of the Ministry of Finance (2 persons), Talent of Beijing Municipality (3 persons),Outstanding Teaching Reference (1 person) and the second prize of Basic Teaching Skill Contest in Beijing Municipality (1 person).To broaden the horizon of its students, the Department keeps inviting accomplished professionals from relevant institutions, both domestic and abroad, such as Ministry of Finance, China and Cardiff University, UK as adjunct professors. Meanwhile, each postgraduate is put to guidance of two qualified academic advisers, one from BIT faculty and the other from outside campus.
Research projects and achievements
In recent five years, teachers in the Department have taken up 12 research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) and the National Social Science Foundation (2 key projects included). Moreover, the Department has witnessed her teachers successfully getting numerous research papers printed in high-profile periodicals such as Journal of Business Ethics, European Journal of Finance, Journal of Information System, Journal of Business Research, Asian Economic Papers, Applied Financial Economics, Management World, Accounting Research, Auditing Research, Nankai Business Review and China Accounting Review. Also they have got dozens of monographs, translations and bilingual teaching textbooks published, scores of papers cited via SSCI.
