Dr. Kang Zhao is an Assistant Professor of Management Sciences at the Tippie College of Business, The University of Iowa. His current research focuses on business analytics, data science, and social computing, especially the analysis, modeling, mining, and simulation of social/business networks and social media. His research has led to more than 20 journal papers, and been featured in public media from more than 25 countries, such as Washington Post, USA Today, Forbes, New York Public Radio, BBC, Agence France-Presse, The Times of India, and South China Morning Post. He also served as the Chair for INFORMS Artificial Intelligence Section 2014-2016.

Networks are ubiquitous in our daily life. The recent availability of large-scale network data has enabled new computational approaches to study these networks. This talk will introduce my latest research that leverages machine learning and simulation techniques to study social networks and supply chain networks. Specifically, I will cover projects related to link prediction and behavior detection in online social networks, as well as disruption propagations in supply chain networks.
