主講人介紹:
    Dr. Jie Song is an associate professor with Department of Industrial and Management Engineering at Peking University, Beijing, China. She received the B.S. degree in applied mathematics from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 2004, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering from Tsinghua University in 2007 and 2010, respectively. She has been a research fellow in Georgia Institute of Technology from year 2007 to 2008, and during 2010 to 2012 she is a postdoc fellow in department of Industrial and System Engineering in University of Wisconsin Madison. Dr. Jie Song is a member of INFORMS and IEEE. Her research interests are simulation optimization, stochastic modeling in the application areas of logistics, healthcare and production. Dr.Jie Song has published journal papers in many top journals including Discrete Event Dynamic Systems: Theory and Applications, Annuals of Operations Research, IEEE Automation Science and Engineering etc. Her research has been funded from NSFC, National Key Technology Research and Development Program, Science Foundation of Ministry of Education of China.
內容簡介:
    Appointment system of outpatients is used by hospitals with the purpose to ?uctuate daily demand and provide the patient timely access. Different from the existing research, the appointment rule in this paper captures three realistic features, such as the length of booking window, the block capacity and the duration of block service time. These features lie at the intersection of e?ciency and timely access to healthcare. According to the current operating process of inter-day appointment planning, a renewal process with batch transfer is formulated to model the dynamics of appointment backlogs under the patient cancellation behavior, which is a novel extension of bulk server queue.
    Based on the steady-state system distribution, we propose three performance measures to evaluate patient accessibility and the system e?ciency. We further use them to obtain the optimal appointment rule by minimize system total cost that is the summation of providers’ operation cost, appointment patients’ waiting cost and potential patients’ opportunity cost. The numerical experiment counter-intuitively shows that extending booking window is insigni?cant to reduce the system congestion when patient cancellation is low, while a sparse appointment block is a better design for highly demand physicians. Finally, a real-world case study is conducted to show the e?ectiveness of the proposed model, where the quantitatively solution is consistent with the insights derived from numerical analysis. The improved appointment rule design is practical and useful for hospital managers in decision making.
